Lorimoto Gallery is proud to present MUD MEN, an exhibition of contemporary ceramic sculpture featuring five artists:
Nathan Caitlin, Sam Effler, Kenjiro Kitade, Ian Privett, and Jacob Reinstein.

While the exhibited works are stylistically diverse, they are united by a playful sensibility, embracing humor, whimsy, and a sense of absurdity. Each artist approaches ceramics from a distinct perspective, resulting in sculptures that challenge conventional expectations while remaining deeply rooted in the material's rich history.

Ceramics occupies a unique position in art, where functionality can be subtly implied without dictating an object's purpose. Many of the works in MUD MEN reference familiar forms—jars, teapots, planters, and bowls—but none function as traditional vessels in a conventional sense. Instead, these artists transform recognizable archetypes into sculptural objects that blur the boundaries between utility and imagination.

Although the works may conceptually engage with ceramic traditions, each artist pursues an original path through a medium whose prehistoric origins have evolved alongside human civilization. MUD MEN celebrates this ongoing evolution, demonstrating how one of humanity's oldest artistic mediums continues to inspire inventive and unexpected forms of expression.
